Healthy Lips!

exf

I believe the number one secret to great beauty is taking care of your skin. Makeup should only enhance what you already have, but its your job to protect what you have. We’ve talked about sun screen before, washing off your makeup, maintaining beauty tools… now we need to talk about taking care of your lips. The reality is most women always have a little lipstick on, even when they don’t wear anything else. The shade and finish of your lipstick will not matter if your lips are chapped and dry. Remember lips don’t just dry up in the winter, the sun can dehydrate your lips as well as not drinking enough water. Its good to exfoliate your lips once a week, this way you can get rid of dead skin and can begin to moisturize. A quick recipe you can whip up at home is a scrub made of honey and sugar or olive oil and sugar. Start by splashing lips with warm water to soften skin and give a wet coating. Next, apply the mixture with your fingertip in a gentle, circular motion and rinse with warm water when finished. The final step is moisturizing with a potent hydrating oil or balm. If you want to keep it natural try Vitamin E oil, dry your lips well and apply it as you would balm or lotion. You can purchase the oil on its own or pop a vitamin E capsule and apply the oil. When all this is done your lips will begin to get softer and any lip color product- from shiny gloss to matte crayon- will look great!

The Rose Bowl

1

Here’s another time to reminisce over my days as a makeup artist… this time is a swimsuit story for US Vogue’s April 1995 issue. Shot at The Rose Bowl in Los Angeles. With Kate Moss as the beauty, styled by Brana Wolf, hairstylist Serge Normant  and shot by my good friend Arthur Elgort. All these memories seem centuries away from me now, but in the end the best thing you have is just that- beautiful memories.

And if you like Kate’s juicy summer lips I hope you’ll try one of the new Moisture Luxe Tinted Lip Balms in hints of Pink, Red, Coral and Berry.

How-To: Highlight!

Contouring the face is a great way to add definition to the shape of your face. Highlighting areas of your face is an easy way to contour. The secret to highlighting is exaggerating the sharpest areas of the face, making their shape more prominent. Stars like Jennifer Lopez, Halle Berry and Jessica Simpson are big fans of highlighters because these don’t just only add glow to the skin but also emphasize what’s already there.

The Chic Luminosity Highlighter Sticks will give you radiance, a light shimmer and accent the angles of your face. Choose from the champagne Sparkling Sands or the rose-gold Persian Sunset. You can swipe the stick directly onto the skin and then blend in with a Core Tools Duo Fiber Fan Brush. Apply a soft layer of the highlighter along your t-zone: This is a very delicate application on the center of your forehead, down the bridge of your nose and the top and bottom portions of your lips. The most prominent application is on your cheek bones, just slightly stronger than the t-zone and blend the product here completely.

Beauty Petpeeve: Poorly Blended Powder!

beautypetpeev_brighteningpowder

A brightening powder is used to set your foundation and concealer while adding a bit of brightness to the eye. If this powder is applied incorrectly or not blended property it can leave an undesirable look similar to those of the ladies above. Of course, these women are on the Red Carpet and therefore the flashing cameras and lights make the powder appear even stronger. Then again we should all be camera ready always so here is how to avoid this Beauty Petpeeve!

The area under your eyes will look lighter than the rest of the face if you use a powder that is not translucent or a shade that is too light for your complexion. Go for a sheer powder that brightens without adding color and use a small pointed brush to blend the powder where needed. For an older eye- powder under the eyes may settle into lines and create a crease so you want to keep your application sheer and light. Then using a clean and dry fan brush dust away any excess. Set in your foundation without adding a thick layer of white powder and avoid having this look in your any photograph!
